Sorry, What | Katrina | Fanfic Review

Updated: Apr 1, 2024

Hello bloggiess 🤍, I hope this finds you well! It is currently 1:50 in the morning and I am wide awake typing away. This is what I love! Having words just flow from my mouth onto a page, whether that’s a digital page or paper. I’m probably gunna drink a cup of ☕️, just to immediately pass out when I’m done this review.

Sorry, What is a short but very cute 2,476 word story posted to my favourite Fanfiction site, that I find myself coming back to often. It starts with a understated comical tone to it with Yoroichi crawling into Ichigo’s window, confusing the ever living hell out of him, by asking Ichigo when he intends to move his courtship along with Kisuke. Ichigo is understandably confused, as he had never intentionally started courting Kisuke.

The third person view surrounding Ichigo has a dry sense of humour that speaks to me, and I found myself flying through this one. You feel bad yet hopeful as Ichigo’s reaction tells a story of heartbreak for Kisuke, a man who doesn’t feel easy, but who had opened up to Ichigo, and was hopeful of moving forward. Ichigo’s inner dialogue gives hope, going back to the poem Ichigo had written and left out about Kisuke for said man to find. His thoughts are very favourable to Kisuke, and lean towards jealous when other people liking Kisuke comes up.

I also love the portrayal of Yoroichi in Sorry, What, fiercely loyal and defensive of Kisuke, but also understanding of Ichigo and holding no anger towards him, just sorrow at this situation. She shows just as much loyalty towards Ichigo  as she does to Kisuke, which is something that I love being captured when I read fanfic, as Yoroichi is fiercely loyal towards Ichigo. 🐈‍⬛ girl is like a big sister to 🍓boy and we Stan it!

Now to talk about Kisuke! Katrina is my favourite Kisuke writer and it’s on full display here. This is the most soft and vulnerable yet still believably Kisuke I have ever seen him written. Usually I find writers take Kisuke to showing with his emotions for the character, but Katrina has Kisuke held back and withdrawn in a way that just screams Kisuke and I love it.

Kisuke and Ichigo together is so emotionally constipated and stilted to the extreme and it is just so cute and wholesome. I love the slight awkwardness of both characters and how they mesh so well with each other. They both go Into this relationship with optimism and it’s just so nice to read.

That’s how this fic gets rated, a very lovely nice to read. The whole journey from start to finish is just a steady pleasant ride and there’s really something to be said for that, which is why I’ll be going back to this fic in the future.

I hope you enjoyed this dip into Katrina’s version of the world of Bleach with me, and I hope to see you on my next adventure! 🤎
